BA in Biological Sciences, Columbia University, 2016

MHS in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, 2017

I was born in Bucharest, Romania, and raised in New York City. My fascination with science led me to pursue a biology undergraduate degree at Columbia University. I then completed a Master’s degree from the department of molecular microbiology and immunology at Johns Hopkins University, where I became particularly interested in public health. After graduating, I worked as a research assistant in Douglas Norris’s lab and studied malaria transmission, where I also met Dr. Carpi (who was a JHMRI postdoc fellow at the time!). I followed my passion for infectious diseases and am now a PhD student in Dr. Carpi’s lab, with a focus on Plasmodium falciparum parasite interactions and co-infections, with the ultimate goal of understanding how these parasite-vector interactions impact malaria transmission dynamics. Broadly, I am interested in combining metagenomics, molecular biology, and infectious disease evolution. Outside of the lab, you can find me on walks, traveling, taking photographs, exploring restaurants, learning new languages, and playing tennis.
